Made a little road trip to the South in to Currituck North Carolina, While it is not technically Hampton Roads, it is considered by many as part of Hampton Roads.

This is the Old Currituck County Jail, believed to be one of the oldest jails in North Carolina. The jail was completed around 1820.

I Wonder Who Gets The Bill

I went for a ride today, and got reminded of something, that has annoyed me for a long time…

London Bridge Road between Virginia Beach Boulevard and Dam Neck used to be a 2 lane country road with absolutely no street lights on it, now it is a 4 lane road, with enough lights to light an NFL stadium.

London Bridge Street Lights

If you take a look at these lights, they are spaces very tightly, maybe 75 feet, there are at least 60 lights in a distance of less then a mile.

And the waste continues Southbound…

I have no idea what kind of deal the city or state for that matter has with Dominion Power, but in light of the recent 18% rate increase, I can’t imagine that it is going to be cheap to keep this this section of road light. The smart thing to do would be to yank at least half of these, and use them somewhere else.

I wonder how much lighting this section of road costs in comparison to an additional Police or Fireman…

A tranquil waterway in a residential neighborhood

I have started riding my bike a lot more lately, mainly for health reasons. I have seen a lot of things that I have missed driving by, like this. I drive by this spot at least once a week, and never noticed the simple beauty, that can be found in the middle of a neighborhood.
