The journey and adventure is our goal. I saw a new sign for “Historic Fort Huger” pointing down a road we have traveled before, I don’t recall seeing that before, or we would have checked it out then. We almost always turn when we see a sign that point to anything potentially interesting, and we have been know to turn down side roads for no reason what so ever, and that is where the fun begins…

The site is a nice interpretative site about the fort, and those who built and served at it during its short life, it is a short hike down a well maintained and fairly flat trail, if you are in the area, it is worth the visit. The park has only been open since May of 2008.

The fort is located near here, but the roads to the actual fort are real new, what shows as a dirt road on the map in now Lawnes Point Road or something like that. just go down that road until you see a split rail fence on the right/East side of the road.
